What happened to me?

I’m talking about weight gain after menopause

Like me, you may have asked yourself this quiet yet uncomfortable question when you reached your 50s. It’s confusing and frustrating when you discover that what used to work to keep you looking and feeling good doesn’t work now:

  • The weight that used to come off easily refuses to shift
  • Energy levels dip
    Sleep becomes unpredictable
  • And all the strategies you used, that worked perfectly well for years, suddenly stop producing the same results

The truth is your body hasn’t failed you

The rules have changed

When I discovered the new ‘rules’, I changed my focus to:

  • Helping women understand why weight gain happens after menopause and
  • Giving you a smarter, kinder way to regain control of your weight and wellbeing after 50.

And for me, it’s about so much more than weight loss. It’s about helping you, as an older woman, to stop shrinking in your own life.

My Story

Like you, I spent years putting everyone else first.

I built my career, raised my family, managed responsibilities for all and kept doing my best to keep everything moving forward.

And somewhere along the way, I quietly disappeared:

  • My health deteriorated to the point where I was diagnosed as obese, pre-diabetic with high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
  • I felt exhausted, older than my years and completely disconnected from the person I used to be.
  • After decades of dieting, nothing seemed to work anymore.

Like many women struggling with menopause weight gain, it felt that my body had suddenly stopped responding to everything that had worked before:

  • I didn’t want to take statins and a host of other medications, so I was on a mission to understand what was happening in my body.
  • I began learning about the impact of hormones, stress, poor sleep, movement, nutrition and lifestyle after menopause.
  • Eventually I realised something important. The problem wasn’t me.

The problem

What many women over 50 may not know about weight gain

No one had ever explained to me what happens to your body when your hormones shift after menopause

Oestrogen levels drop dramatically, and that shift affects how your body stores fat, how it regulates blood sugar, how it responds to stress and how easily you can gain weight

Once I understood how these hormonal shifts influence weight gain after menopause, everything started to make sense.

I lost 17kg, reversed my pre-diabetes, improved my health markers and most importantly, kept the weight off. Yet my biggest result wasn’t my weight loss. It was reclaiming my wellbeing, confidence and sense of self.

This is why I want to help you and other women over 50

My own experience of menopause and weight loss has fired me up to help you too. I can see how you’re trying incredibly hard to do the right things:

  • Eating carefully
  • Exercising
  • Trying diet after diet

And yet your menopause weight gain still refuses to shift. It’s not because you lack discipline.

  • It’s because your body is responding to very different hormonal conditions after menopause than it did twenty years earlier
  • When oestrogen declines, your body tends to store fat more easily especially around the abdomen. It’s when you get the hated ‘spare tyre’ around the middle
  • Your insulin regulation shifts, stress has a greater impact on weight gain, and the old weight-loss strategies that once worked, simply stop being effective

Once you understand what’s happening inside your body, you can stop fighting and begin working with your biology. This is when your sustainable weight loss after menopause becomes possible.

Wellbeing beyond Weight Loss

For many women, weight gain during menopause isn’t just about appearance. It affects confidence, energy and the way you show up in your own life. Over time, you begin to make yourself smaller. Have you noticed the signs:

  • Hiding in loose clothing
  • Avoiding photographs
  • Declining social invitations/li>
  • Not putting yourself forward

My work is about helping women reclaim their wellbeing, confidence and visibility after menopause. Because when you reclaim your wellbeing, something even more powerful happens. You reclaim yourself.
